The destination for this years team is Venezuela, home of Angel Falls and capybara - the words largest rodent.

Situated on the Caribbean coast of South America, the Andes tower over the North West of the country, creating steep sections of river in deep gorges with world class white water. From what we already know there are numerous runs in the area, ranging from mellow grade IV to steep and scary V+, we're heading in search of these and other rivers which have not yet been paddled.

                    Previous Trips

There have been two previous trips to Venezuela, one by an American group and one by a British group in 2006. Both trips found fantastic white water, and paddled 1st descents in the area near Merida in the North West of the country. The team intend to head out to a similar area, paddle 2nd descents on a couple of these rivers and then look for more potential 1st descents. We've already got our eye on one river, and there are plenty more in the area!

There are a number of rafting companies who commercially raft the easier sections, it is our intention to get in touch with them and see if we are able to unlock some new runs for them, and to try to help build the whitewater tourism industry.

Upon our return, we hope to collate some river notes which should help other groups looking to get out there exploring the area.
