What is Uniyaker?
First set up in 2004, Uniyaker was designed to bring together a team of good paddlers from Universities across the UK, to undertake an exploratory trip in search of some of the best whitewater in the world. Previous expeditions have travelled to Kyrgyzstan (2005), Mongolia & Siberia (2007) and Vietnam (2009), now it is the turn of the 2011 team to follow these with another top expedition to the Venezuelan Andes..
Where did we go?
We went to the amazing South American country, Venezuela. We based our trip around 3 locations; the steep, boulder rivers in Merida, the 33,000 cumecs Rio Orinoco monster and finally the "land of waterfalls" the Gran Sabana. Each area offered a totally different style of rivers which made the trip so varied and exciting. Have a look at the Team Blog for more stories about each of the amazing destinations.
What did we get up too?
We paddled some amazingly varied rivers all over Venezuela, Met incredible frienly people that would always go out of their way to help. Saw some unbelievable sights from continuous lightening to monkeys carrying their babies through the trees. All in all we had a top time on what for many of us was our first propper expedition and cant wait to get out on the next one!
