                    The BUKE 2011 team

                    Rob Moffatt (University of Oxford)

I've been paddling ever since my local rugby pitch flooded and I borrowed an old slalom boat from my Dad. Boating has taken me across Europe (Spain, France, Austria, Corsica) and further afield (Turkey and India), and fits well with my enjoyment of travelling and experiencing new cultures. Uniyaker is a chance for me to continue paddling in an exciting destination with some of the best boaters from all over the UK, and a fantastic way to finish my time at Uni.

So I started paddling a while ago, not too sure when but back home in the land of big wellies and Velcro gloves. I didn't really start paddling properly until I moved to Edinburgh for university. From there I haven't looked back, there is plenty of fun to be had up in Scotland and a good group to do so with. Since then I have also spent every summer away on or funding a paddling trip. The expedition this summer should be super. The trip is a chance for me to push myself and take my paddling to the next stage in terms of trips; going to new unexplored places in hopefully a new and exciting culture and environment!

I've been brought up boating in the custard country. The last couple of summers have been fantastic getting pre-work runs on the Devon classics and sunshine looping sessions in the mighty flowerpots. Also got the chance to do some travelling and boating around Europe, New Zealand and Asia.

Uniyaker has been a fantastic way to hook up with a quality team of solid boaters and I can't wait to hit some unchartered runs with these guys in the summer!

Right then...what am I like? Well I love travelling and paddling. I paddle
in Aberystwyth Uni Canoe Club, which basically means whenever it rains I'm off on a mission looking for water. I'm really looking forward to this trip, we have a solid group of great people and can't wait to experience what Venezuela has to offer. So far the furthest I have taken a kayak to is Uganda which was hardly an expedition (although an incredible place to boat), so to get somewhere more remote and undiscovered is getting me just a little bit keen!

Jonny Hawkins (University of St. Andrews)

Since being thrown onto Hurley at an early age, boating has been a huge part of my life.  Going to uni in St Andrews has given me the chance to run loads of cool rivers all over Scotland and Europe.  I am so excited to be going on this expedition with such a great bunch of people.  I crave the excitement and unpredictability of expedition kayaking and dream of the kind of adventure that hacking through jungle or portaging over epic scree slopes brings.

                    Bring it on!

After years spent fighting the raging torrents of the Tynebesi in Hexham, I thought it was time to mellow down and tackle some easier water for a bit.  This expedition seemed like the perfect opportunity to do that and I'm looking forward to drifting down some big volume multi-days and falling off some rather small waterfalls in some semi-exotic locations.  Obviously picked for my good looks and infinite charm, I look forward to bringing some class and style to the expedition.
